C++ vs. the world

As I cursed my way through the C++ syntax for the CS 106B recursion assignments, I was reminded of this chart that I encountered in Code Complete. The book is dated, so it uses C as the reference denominator; I can’t help but wonder what these numbers would look like with C++ against Python or Ruby. As much as I want to delve headlong into Ruby or Python sometimes, I am sticking to my guns that there is value in learning the lower-level stuff. After all, Python or Ruby’s simplicity actually conceals much of the complexity for coders, and that is sometimes treacherous for beginners.
